5/24/2023 0 Comments Jeffrey eugenides booksWhy does Lux escape so thoroughly and courageously into promiscuous sex - on the roof of the house? Now, nearly twenty years later, the narrator and his friends piece together fragments of gossip and hearsay, overheard phone conversations, police reports, newspaper clippings, and sultry, whispered confessions - all the gathered evidence that forms the tragic family romance of The Virgin Suicides. Their obsession: the mysterious Lisbons - brainy Therese (17), fastidious Mary (16), ascetic Bonnie (15), libertine Lux (14), and the youngest, pale, saintly Cecilia (13), whose spectacular demise by self-defenestration onto an iron fence inaugurates "the year of the suicides." It is told by a "collective" narrator whose wry, intelligent voice speaks for an eclectic band of teenage trespassers who once roamed the lawns and sidewalks of their placid suburban neighborhood like so many sleuths. The Virgin Suicides is unlike any other novel you will read this year - a haunting, tender, and wickedly funny tale of love and terror, memory and imagination, sex and suicide. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Alien General's Bride by Vi VoxleyWhen tens of them try and Selena’s right in the middle of it all, Ragnar is faced with what impatience actually brings. A woman has never successfully escaped from a Nayanor warlord. It never occurred to him that the rapture of finding his mate could come with a bitter taste in his mouth with her seemingly endless need for freedom sets her at odds with him and his people. Impatient to find his mate, impatient to get her home, impatient to continue his life with her, he wants everything now. Ragnar is a man of lacking patience and it shows in everything he does. Even if that man is ready to kill, destroy and conquer in the name of her happiness.Īt least that’s what she thought. No man, Nayanor or not, can make decisions for her ever again. Fleeing from an abusive relationship is a reality she has to face, but when it comes to the possibility of giving another man control over her, she’s ready to stand her ground. Selena Gordon is done with running, or so she hoped. When you take what you want, you can’t let it slip away again. I find this book is quite unique, as it has a funny setting which makes many different scenarios. I like how even if you don’t listen to them in order, it tells you a little about what happened most of the time. good, now let’s continue with the book review (joke about the book, sorry if you don’t get it). Also there’s one thing you need to know about me, when I really like a book I will listen/read it repeatedly, do you understand. I love these books it was the second book I listened to, after ‘Alice Through the Looking-Glass and what she found there’ I fell in love with the books, when I found out there was more than one, I slowly asked my mum to buy them. Hi I’m horrible at writing book reviews, so this may sound like a five year old has written this but hey, here goes nothing I love this book I have listened to all three wayside stories, I think there is only three. 5/24/2023 0 Comments The Rising by Morgan BriceIt's almost easy to forget that Brice himself contracted COVID-19. Brice has also jumped at the opportunity to have the time to reflect and re-cooperate, precious time with his family being at the top of his list. It's also a hopeful sign of the possibilities that are forthcoming, with all fingers crossed for 2021. We're calling it the COVID band".ĭespite the rising numbers in cases and continued anxiety surrounding the pandemic around Christmas, it's difficult to reject the opportunity to play live when the chance safely arises. I'm going to play a full electric, alongside our drummer and bass player. "It's only half the members, but we're going treat it like a full band set. Unsurprisingly for Brice, he's taking it all in his stride, lapping at the opportunity to get to play some songs to any audience - particularly highlights from his brand new, global-greeting album. It's happening in a year where his stock has never been so high, with two singles appearing in Billboard's top (the only artist to appear twice in the list), his first CMA Award win for 'I Hope You're Happy Now' - his duet with Pearce - and the fact he's celebrating the 10th anniversary of the release of his debut record with the release of 'Hey World', his fifth. It's another rollercoaster turn of events in 2020 for the singer-songwriter - having contracted the virus himself last month, causing him to pull out of his CMA Awards performance with Carly Pearce a couple of days before the ceremony was meant to take place. Lee Brice is heading for a show in Texas. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Magic for liars by sarah gaileyThey have since been estranged as Tabitha went to study magic and left Ivy to her normal, non-magical life and ailing mother. She knows that it exists because her twin sister was discovered to be magical when they were children. The existence of magic itself is considered pretty nebulous in Ivy’s day to day life. For one thing, Ivy is an adult–a private investigator who works outside the world of magic and has, in fact, never been a part of it. But Magic for Liars is not quite like other books about magic. With protagonist Ivy Gamble, the reader gets a taste of how Jessica Jones might fit in at Hogwarts, and in fact, Gailey slyly references the most famous school of witchcraft and wizardry to locate their novel among its forebears. Sarah Gailey’s Magic for Liars is a fantastical multi-genre detective novel. This is feature allows you to search the site. So after all this time, I’m a pretty crappy writer. I’ve often been accused of having done more in my life than the average 30 year old, but if I were completely honest I’d have to tell you my secret: I’m really 392. Now I must learn who I really am, protect my friends, get the girl, and find my way back to my beloved hometown of Orenda. The only keys to the life I remembered were my father’s ring, my unique abilities, and the onslaught of demons that seemed hell-bent on finding me. I woke to find myself in a strange new world called Los Angeles. When the kingdom of men conquered my town, I was murdered by one of my own-the betrayer of my kind. By the time I was ten I understood nature, talked to the trees, and listened to the wind. NilssonAs important as it is for today and tomorrow, the future of this country is deserving of it. Why are these brilliant legal minds t representing their clients to the best of their ability, and in most cases, t able to acquire compensation for them? The medical profession and legal system must learn from its mistakes regarding medical malpractice. So why are so many people being injured and killed due to medical error? We are supposed to have the most brilliant legal minds in the world. We are at the top when it comes to medical kwledge and research. This is the most powerful country on earth. This country is in serious trouble if the medical profession is responsible for injuring or killing a patient, and to make matters worse, the injured or victim's families cant seek the best legal representation to rectify the injustice placed upon them. Everyone is accountable for improving healthcare and victim's rights. In Traumatized: A Patient's Story, he reflects on his own personal journey to expose major flaws within the system of healthcare and attorneys who do t put their clients' interests ahead of their own. Here, he praises Truss for bringing life back into the art of punctuation. Frank McCourt, author of Angela's Ashes, wrote the foreward to the American edition of Eats, Shoots and Leaves. Each chapter is devoted to at least one topic of punctuation: apostrophes, commas, semicolons and colons, dashes, hyphens, and finally a chapter devoted solely to the importance of maintaining punctuation rules. The goal of this book is to remind its readers of the importance of punctuation by mixing humor and instruction. In her book, Truss details the state of punctuation in the United Kingdom and the United States. "All he does is Eats, Shoots and Leaves." "My man is like one of those big Panda bears, you know, the ones kept in captivity in China." Climb ladders at dead of night with a pot of paint to remove the redundant apostrophe in 'Video's sold here'. In case you don't get the joke in the title. Eats, Shoots and Leaves adopts a more militant approach and attempts to recruit an army of punctuation vigilantes: send letters back with the punctuation corrected. Please note that this list is not exhaustive. All the brands mentioned on this list, however, do test on animals. The same goes for Too Faced and Becca (now owned by Estee Lauder but still cruelty-free) and Tom’s of Maine (Colgate-Palmolive). While in most cases, brands that are owned by companies that test on animals are not cruelty-free, L’Oreal is one of the few companies to own brands that have kept their ethical stances and have remained cruelty-free under the ownership. The second exception consists of a few select brands. This does NOT mean the company is or will be cruelty-free in the near future! It’s only a small step in the right direction, and the company still DOES test on animals at this point. PETA currently lists Colgate-Palmolive as “working toward regulatory changes to reduce the number of animals used for testing”. There are however two exceptions, the first one being Colgate-Palmolive, which have agreed to gradually change their policy. These companies own the majority of the brands we commonly find in most retailer stores and drugstores, and they’re making no real efforts to change their unethical policies. Johnson, Colgate-Palmolive, Reckitt Benckiser, Church & Dwight, Unilever, and Henkel.
